Tracks Music Library, Chapel Hill’s local music streaming platform, announces a new concert series this September at University Place. Planned by Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture, Tracks Music Series will include four free outdoor concerts on Thursday evenings starting September 9. Taking place on the southeast side of University Place, the concerts hope to gather the community around live music and give Triangle-area musicians and bands a stage to share their talent.
Tracks Music Library is home to a slew of local talent and was one of the inspirations behind the music series and lineup. Each night’s lineup is themed around a musical genre and features a pair of acts from the Tracks collection. Concerts will happen on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. featuring two 45 minute sets:
September 9 | Folk & Bluegrass | featuring old-time fiddling group Hard Drive followed by folk trio, Honey Magpie
September 16 | Alternative & Rock | featuring the sonic sounds of Heat Preacher followed by Jack The Radio making for an electric evening of rock ‘n roll
September 23 | Rap & Hip Hop | two local Hip Hop icons take the stage -- Rowdy will start and KAZE4LETTERS will takeover
September 30 | Jazz | beginning with the legendary Katharine Whalen’s Jazz Squad and culminating with the innovative collective of Dreamroot
Tracks Music Series is inspired by the love for live music in Chapel Hill. While on hiatus from in-person festivals during the pandemic, Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture engaged the public to learn about interests in community celebrations. “We heard from the community that they want more opportunities to hear live, local music, especially in the times we are in. We have this amazing catalog of local acts that people have been streaming on the Tracks platform and this will be a great way to experience these artists in the way they are meant to be heard - live and in person," says Susan Brown, Community Arts & Culture Director.
